Turtle
Maintaining a clean, balanced habitat is key to a successful turtle tank. Aquatic turtles drink the water they swim in, so it is important that this water remains clean and clear. The result will be healthy and happy turtles, and an aesthetically pleasing, tranquil aquarium.
Taking just a few minutes on a regular basis to maintain your aquarium conditions is key to a healthy underwater world.

When organic sludge and waste build up in the tank, the natural aquarium cycle is smothered, creating an unhealthy environment for aquatic turtles. Weekly addition of API® TURTLE SLUDGE DESTROYER will help eliminate odors by adding live bacteria to the water. These bacteria will also breakdown organic waste and debris that naturally build up in turtle habitats and produce cleaner, clearer water.
It is also recommended to use either an internal or canister filter to maintain clean water if your tank setup will allow it. If you are not using a filter, frequent water changes will be necessary.
Organic waste is released into an aquarium by fish, invertebrates, plants, algae, and uneaten fish food, all of which degrade water quality. API® BIO-CHEM ZORB™ filtration media contains a high grade resin/carbon blend for the superior removal of aquarium pollutants, including colors and odors, and removes light-blocking impurities for improved plant growth in freshwater aquariums. This breakthrough water filtration technology is more effective than carbon alone, and is available in ready-to-use pouches or cartridges that fit most filters.
Water testing is an important part of boosting and maintaining tank health to ensure optimal aquarium conditions, so we recommend weekly water testing. If tests reveal high ammonia, nitrate, or phosphate, this is an indication that it is time to perform a water change. For testing of all of these parameters, use API FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT to ensure that harmful levels are kept to a minimum. The kit is accurate and easy to use, and includes information on how to correct unsafe conditions.
